FNAR241: Hand-Drawn Computer Animation — Fall 2019
ToonBoom Harmony
Overview
This was a series of two projects I undertook in my intro to hand-drawn computer animation class. The software I used was ToonBoom Harmony, working on a desktop computer with a Wacom pen and tablet.
Project 1: Collision
The goal of this project was to encapsulate collision. My idea for this was to create something with a dog running. The first iteration of this idea was for a dog to see a butterfly, chase it, and then collide with another dog while the butterfly flies away unscathed. Then, I decided to change the other dog to a trashcan to create a more interesting collision, as the trashcan would fall over and colorful trash would emerge from it.
Project 2: Music & Rotoscope
For this project, I was given a clip of the song “I Wanna Be Like You” from the Jungle Book. I rotoscoped over the motion of the money dancing. Since it is a very quick clip of the monkey bounding around, my initial thought was to draw someone ice skating, or someone chasing a piece of paper that had flown away from their pocket. I ended up going with a girl dancing in a meadow, jumping down from her sitting spot on a ledge and then bursting out into dance for a few energetic seconds.
